Modo 3d software#
Most people who have first used most will agree that it is a must have software for anyone serious about 3D modeling.
While there is no question that the Modo 12 developers have made leaps in improving the core Modo offering, it is only really of value for existing owners or those such as design houses who really need a great subdivision modeller, which Modo still is.Īs the competition catch up, improve and overtake Modo in a lot of its core competencies, it is becoming much harder to recommend it for new artists, especially at the current price.Ī lot of nice updates to the core modelling toolset and some stability improvements cannot mask the fact that, at that price, Modo 12 is hard to recommend to new artists looking for a complete digital content-creation tool. The first of three releases in the Modo 15 series, 15.0 introduces new workflow paradigms that define the future of design and content creation. MODO is an innovative 3D modeling, texturing, and simulating toolkit which deliver high performance, seamless integration of 3D scenes into their digital environment. This allows for greater precision when performing calculations and drawing images.Modo 12 features better and clearer access to the cloud asset library of meshes, materials and other library assetsĪs so many of the toolsets in Modo from animation to sculpting are starting to feel deprecated, it would be great to see Foundry reposition Modo as a dedicated modelling tool with less of the animation tools for a lower price, where it can compete with as well as complement tools such as ZBrush.Īt the moment, however, Modo 12 feels unloved by Foundry. Lastly, NVIDIA enables double precision floating point (FP64) capability on Quadro cards only (note: the new GeForce RTX also have this feature enabled).
Modo 3d drivers#
In terms of drivers, Quadro cards also get special drivers that are validated for professional grade applications such as for 3D modeling, animation, etc. In addition, Quadro cards have a larger video memory frame buffer that features error correction technology. This results in better reliability, lower power consumption and lower heat output. Furthermore, Quadro cards are a little more reliable because NVIDIA chooses the higher quality graphics chips for them. Independent technology company Luxology announced that DNA Productions used modo, a leading subdivision surface and polygonal 3D modeling platform.
For example, NVIDIA controls the specifications and quality assurance on all Quadro cards, while with GeForce cards the specifications and quality assurance are managed by the third party board partners. However the GeForce and Quadro cards are not quite the same. Modo is used by artists around the world to create assets and shots for various industries including animation, VFX, games, architecture and design. So why does the Quadro cost multiples more than the GeForce? The main reason is because the target customers for Quadro cards, namely large content production studios, oil and resource exploration companies and engineering firms can afford these cards which allows NVIDIA to charge a premium for the couple extra features they enable. Modo is a 3D modeling and animation software that includes powerful and flexible sculpting, texturing, lighting, and rendering toolsets.
In fact, the processors come off of the same assembly line.
Modo 3d series#
In short, the actual graphics processor powering both series of cards is exactly the same. A common question we get is whether to go with a GeForce or Quadro graphics card and what the main differences are.
